The SECOND RESD event, with BOSTON BREWERIES


After the success of our first Event, and all the compliments from our Guests, it is Rustenburg Exclusive Secret Dining’s pleasure to invite you to our next Event:

On Saturday, 14 September 2013 ~ 18h30 for 19h00.

 

All our Events and Venues will be kept a secret, and we can inform you that this event will be very different from our first!  We love variety, and like to keep things interesting for our Guests, as well as to satisfy all the different tastes and personalities.

 

It is promised to be a truly unique event, with Live Entertainment, and Rustenburg’s own Masterchef… Thys Hattingh, as our Chef for the night. The theme for the evening is PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN.

Prepare yourself for a 6 course meal, where you can see the food assembly line, and all the action in the kitchen, from your table.  We would love for you to join us for this unique “Boere Kos” evening @ only R400 pp. 

Each Course is paired with the best South African Brewed Beers from ~ Boston Breweries. (See tasting notes of the beers below)
 
 
 
THE MENU FOR THE SECOND EVENT!

 
Traditional “old school” Ginger beer on arrival

 
Your choice of Rosemary and Olive Beer Bread, Mixed Herb Beer Bread or Cheese and Onion Beer Bread baked in tins for the tables.
Course 1 – Boston Premium Lager
A new take on Pap & Kaiings served on a pickled beetroot puree and micro herbs.
 
Course 2 – Naked Mexican
Traditional Boere Bobotie made with Kudu and a Mexican kick in a cup.
 
 
 
 
 
Course 3 – Whale Ale
Offal & Ale Pie, a hearty pie deconstructed with a Golden Puff Pastry top.


Course 4 – Loaded Cannon
Pork Terrine with soft boil Duck Egg centre and “Boere Toast”.


Course 5 – Van Hunks Pumpkin Ale
Cinnamon, Pumpkin Sago, with a Pumpkin Puree Served with a scoop homemade Van Hunks Pumpkin Ale Ice Cream.


Course 6 Johnny Gold ~ Cheers to Beers
A Johnny Gold Beer Float topped with a scoop homemade Vanilla Ice Cream, huge slurry straw served with a whole strawberry and a dried vanilla bean, dusted with Icing sugar.
 

The location will remain a highly-guarded secret until the day of our event where all will be revealed to our guests. ~ You will receive a SMS and email with venue details.
Upon arrival you and your party will be treated to a welcoming drink while you relax and mingle with the rest of the dinner guests, and discover the very unique venue.
There will be someone to look after your cars, while you relax and enjoy yourself in the venue. 
 This is so much more than the normal dinner evening in the Waterfall Mall - this is a true experience and an absolutely unique and unforgettable evening at unique location in Rustenburg.  You don't want to miss out.
We will also send out an Order Form to our Guests, after our Event, to give them a change to order South African brewed beers direct from the Breweries.
On the morning of the event, confirmed guests will receive a text message and email with the address of our "secret" location and any special arrival instructions. Platinum Weekly Article on the First ever RESD Event on 03 Aug 2013

Rustenburg – The RESD might sound diabolical, like a secret society with its heart set on world domination and controlling a puppet government from behind the shadows, but the RESD is a group of Rustenburg locals who have a far nobler and more important agenda than mere world domination.
The RESD is the acronym for the Rustenburg Exclusive Secret Dining, which is a collection of all the finest foods and locally produced dishes presented to a select few members of the public in an attempt to remind Rustenburg’s citizens that we live in a city that is littered with Gems. Gems as in wonderful locations and equally wonderfully individuals who have the talents to create an enchanting evening filled with all the culinary delights that Rustenburg has to offer.
On Saturday, (the 3rd of August) after whispers in the shadows and a few secret messages, the Rustenburg Exclusive Secret Dining club hosted their first major event at Chateau de Nates, just outside of town… and boy they did a splendid job!
In perfect hush-hush style, the location was held secret until the very last day; ‘members’ who bought tickets to attend received a message which simply gave the address and a time.
Chateau de Nates was the ideal venue for this gathering – the winter night was cold enough that I would have gladly worn an illuminate cloak but with their warm fire-places scattered carefully around, the patrons kept us warm and a cosy atmosphere kept everyone in high spirits. And this while a Musician Zane Posthumus, and his Guitar entertained us with delightful serenades.
As for our Hosts; none other than Celia Venter (Owner of Smashing Promotions) and Thys Hattingh, Owner of Sweet Mafia (you might remember him from Master Chef SA). Together they, with a few of their close friends and colleges had envisioned the RESD as a perfect way to bring “local is lekker” to a whole new level; they had literally sourced almost everything on the menu from local producers. Even the chef!
We say almost everything because the only thing that was not from Rustenburg was the wine. The selection of wines was perfect–Van Loveren wine Cellars (from the Cape) was kind enough to provide their very best selection.
The chef was Madelein Cloete, lecturing chef and co-owner of the Professional Cooking Academy in Rustenburg. Madelein is local born-and-bred in Rustenburg, she even matriculated at Hoërskool Bergsig before pursuing her studies at the Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (Mmabatho) and then went on to cook in some of the “hottest” kitchens in the country before returning to her home town in 2004.
Madelein treated us to a meal fit for kings and queens. As for the menu (and I apologise if this leaves you hungry until the next event):
The STARTER was French Brown Onion Soup served with a Traditional Gruyere Cheese Crouton
(caramelised brown onions in a rich, thick beef stock served with a Traditional Swiss Cheese on a crispy French loaf Crouton with a dash of chives), paired with a Pinot Grigio.
While the MAIN was Duck Confit served on a Potato Galettle with Haricot vertand, and a Sweet Cranberry reduction. Duck leg slowly poached in duck fat with thyme until tender and served on a crispy potato cake, green beans and a sweet cranberry sauce -paired with Van Loveren Merlot.
And the DESSERT: Gooseberry Clafouti with a crunchy brown sugar streusel topping and a flamed Cognac Sauce (light warm baked custard with gorgeous Cape Gooseberries Dessert with a crunchy brown sugar topping and a flaming cognac sauce).
Truly the evening was an amazing success, with every single detail considered and executed perfectly. In an evening filled with wonderful surprises, the management from Chateau de Nates gave away the honeymoon suite in a draw. The Winners: Linda van Dyk and Johan Dedricks (who coincidently also decided to host their very own wedding at Chateau de Nates).
If the menu and intrigue was not reason enough to seek out this “secret society,” then I hope the atmosphere and warm hospitality would entice a few of our Platinum Weekly readers to join me at the next meeting.

The lucky couple has recently got engaged and was so pleased with the venue they even booked their wedding date for next year. They gave the words "may the odds ever be in you're favour' a new meaning!

The name just says it all.

This highly acclaimed 4 star Lodge and 3 star Bed & Breakfast is probably one of Rustenburg's most hidden treasures. When we first started thinking of venue's for the very first RESD venue we new we needed to go big or go home, knowing that we wouldn't be able to settle or get away with you're average venue known by all and visited daily. This quaint, hidden jewel turned out to be the perfect place for our first event. Not only does the chateau ooze utter opulence and fine French masonry, it could easily transport you to Europe in let's say under 10 minutes if the traffic is good. Truly an homage to it's name. I think the fact that it's so hidden and disguised by nature makes it the perfect getaway from home. A home away from home, this will soon be made clear to whomever will be winning the amazing night for 2 in the 4 star Honeymoon suite. A night to create memories with the person you love, and what better setting than this private on suite, set around the corner of the main entrance of this stately property. You have a private garden with and out door shower (My personal favourite part), a water feature trickling away in the background. A large room decorated as a very old fashioned Parisian manor, with a large spa bathtub for two in the bathroom.



The estate is literally settled at the foot of two lush covered mountains, with large open gardens and remarkable views 360 degrees.

The chateau is set up for everything from conference facilities, a restaurant, bed and breakfast, a lodge and then the most gorgeous wedding venue with more than three specialised options to choose from. The stunning gardens gives way to classic marque tents, a extravagant dome (decorated with fairy lights) and there is even a beautiful large pond with an island to say your vows on.


 



The estate prides itself as one of the best wedding venues in the region. They have outstanding wedding packages tailored for couples who wants that fairy tale wedding at a fraction of the price. Why spend hundreds of thousands when you can get a piece of heaven on earth in your back yard?

The Official First Event's Date has been Moved to the 3rd AUG 2013
